History in the making...

Well - whether you agree with it or not - we have experienced history once again in front of us. Not only do we have a black man running for president, we have a black man AND a woman on the ticket - at the same time! yes- Geraldine Ferraro opened the windows for Palin to crawl through it but you have to admit - America is much more open to having a women as a vice president than it did back when Ferraro was on the ticket. Back then - it probably was a large part of why Mondale lost (don't quote me on that - I was to young to really care at the time that was going on) and now - it might be because of a woman that McCain wins this election. It might be a fun election to watch after all!!!

Just funny - but true....

Was sent this today by a friend. Thought I would share it because most of it is true and it's all funny!!!

National Girlfriend and Sister's Week

I am only as strong as the coffee I drink, the hairspray I use and the friends I have.To the cool women who have touched my life. Here's to you!

It is good to be a woman...
1. We got off the Titanic first.
2. We can scare male bosses with the mysterious gynecological disorder excuses.
3. Taxis stop for us.
4. We don't look like a frog in a blender when dancing.
5. No fashion faux pas we make, could ever rival the Speedo.
6. We don't have to pass gas to amuse ourselves.
7.. If we forget to shave, no one has to know.
8. We can congratulate our teammate without ever touching her rear end.
9. We never have to reach down every so often to make sure our privates are still there.
10. We have the ability to dress ourselves.
11. We can talk to the opposite sex without having to picture them naked.
12. If we marry someone 20 years younger, we are aware that we will look like an idiot.
13. We will never regret piercing our ears.
14. There are times when chocolate really can solve all your problems.
15. We can make comments about how silly men are in their presence because they aren't listening anyway.

Kerby vs. The chicken....

and the chicken won!!!!

Oh yes - the chicken won hands down.

Last night - Kali and I took the three kids out to some friends house who have a bon-fire a couple times a year for us. The kids LOVE going and they have all these cool animals (which I could show you but I left my camera at home). They have a Guernsey calf, goats, chickens, cat, etc. All the things a good little farm would have. Terrance wanted to help put the chickens in at night so Mel was chasing them into the coop and Terrance was shutting the door to the outside pen. However, he forgot to shut the door to the coop when he went in must be because all the sudden - there were 6-7 chickens running out in the yard.

Then it happened. There was one that was heading right for Kerby and Tia. HOLY COW!! They decided it was a MONSTER of a chicken and they better seek cover or it would eat them alive for sure!!! Unfortunately - all us adults didn't have much sympathy I guess because were double over laughing at the two of them running away from a chicken with these big eyes and arms just a flailing. Kali helped me catch the monster of a chicken and carry her back to the coop (and by the way - it never even TRIED to peck me when I picked it up). Once we got done with the show and were regathering by the chicken coop, Tia come over and said Kerby wet himself.

Poor kid - he was SO scared of the chicken he actually peed his pants. He's 6 and has NEVER peed his pants since I've KNOWN him!!!

But he sure did when that monster chicken was chasing him!!! :)

Is this normal??

Ok - I have to ask this question becuase I think this just isn't normal.

My niece can count to 10 in english AND spanish!!! Is that normal?? She also talks in sentences - not just words here and there. She talks in sentences and understands what you're saying to her without talking in a baby talk type. I'm thinking we have a genious on our hands!!
Are you wondering why I would think this is such a big deal???

THE GIRL JUST TURNED 2 IN THE MIDDLE OF JULY!!!!! YES - 2!!!!

Let me show her off.....

Lake City Weekend with the nieces and now NEPHEW!!!

The weekend up north with the girls has sort of morphed into a Gable reunion - to a small point. There are about 130 I believe on the Gable side now but - this year - we had a couple 2nd cousins (even though they feel more like 1st cousins) join us. We had a great time even though the weather was completely rotten. Already are looking forward to next summer and have a date set!!!!

Here is the one and only boy (at this point) in my family's 3rd generation. Evan is SUCH a good baby. He literally cries when he's hungry, has a dirty diaper or is tired and needs to be put in his crib to sleep. Otherwise - he'll sit in his bouncy, on the floor, in someone's arms for a couple hours and just watch.... sometimes he'll make it 3 hours even!!!

This was pretty much the weather the first 2 days. It finally broke late in the afternoon of the 2nd day but was only in the mid 60's. At the end of the dock you can see some of the girls swimming. It was pouring and they were out playing on a styrofoam board having a ball. We made them come in a little bit when the wind picked up so we didn't have to jump on a jet ski and go get them in the middle of the lake in the pouring rain but they were having a great time. All us older people were standing inside watching them.

Maya was sporting her new life jacket and enjoying the time up there too.

The girls (l to r - Carly (a 2nd cousin to me and 3rd to the other girls on the board), Jessica and Taylor were challenged to stand on the board for 5 seconds at the same time. They worked for a long time trying to get it. They made it to 4 but not 5.

The whole group of 2nd and 3rd cousins. I don't have one with all of us kids in it - have to wait to get that from my aunt but here is the bunch.... back row l to r - Michael, Makenna and Carly. front row l to r - Roxy, Regina holding an unhappy Evan, Taylor and Jessica holding Maya.

quick update...

Here is one of the peacocks my brother and sister in law have on their "farm". Isn't the blue part pretty?
Sarah was feeding the horse some grass. The coverings on their faces are actually to keep the flys out of their eyes. I told my kids they were on there to cover their eyes so they didn't have to look at any ugly kids. They can actually see through the coverings though.

Lucy got to brush one of the horses. She's going to horse camp this summer so it was good practice for her.

Lucy against the blue sky from that day.

Lucy being a perfect big sister to her brother Jose.

Sarah who flew back to Missouri a week ago today.

Destiny against the gorgeous blue sky.

Jose lounging on the hammack.

Destiny and Elizabeth laying in the sun.... :)

The three kids on a pile of straw.

Trying to feed the cow. I missed the long tongue by a milli-second but it would have been a great shot.

Yes - it's been at least a week hasn't it???

I have good reasons....

Anyway - Here are some pictures of a week ago last Friday - took the three kids plus Sarah back to my hometown and went swimming at my brother and sister in law's place with their 4 girls, picked up about 20 bikes that people have donated to our ministry here for our kids and then went to my cousins for a hotdog roast. It was a fun and relaxing day....
